Physical Description

Green brown with light band along back with grey V on sides. 50mm in length.

Method Of Attack

Adults active all year. 100 eggs laid . Hatch in 10 days. Caterpillar feeds for 2 months and pupates in soil.

Leaves, buds, flowers inside and out affected.

Physical Description

Small yellow/ green caterpillar, 20mm. Feeds in leaf axils, tips, buds and may draw parts together. Drops if touched. Small inconspicuous adults active at night. 200 eggs hatch in 2 to 3 weeks. Feed for 2 months, and pupate under leaves.

Plants Affected

Glasshouse, house plants, interior landsapes, herbaceaus shrubs. Acacias, Carnations, Cystisus, Hypericum.

Damage Caused

Leaves, buds, flowers inside and out affected.

Brown Tail Moth

Physical Description

Dark brown 40 mm long. Tufts of brown hair and white scales. Red spots on abdomen. Colonies in silk tents. Leaves eaten in Spring and Summer.

Plants Attacked

Roses affected.

Life Cycle

Hatch in Aug/Sept and overwinter in tents. In spring they feed on growths and spin larger tents and cocoons and pupate in June July. Adults emerge in August or September and lay eggs.

Goat Moth

Physical Description

Large pink red brown caterpillar 10cm. Tunnel into trunks of Oak, Elm, Ash, Beech, Poplar, Willow. 100 or more may attack. Adults are active at night. Smell like goats. These leave in April May and pupate in cocoons and emerge in June July.

Life Cycle

Females lay eggs in cracks and wounds in wood and feed for four years.

Symptom Of Attack

Holes 12mm appear at the base of the tree with sawdust. Adults active at night in June /July. Causes wilting and death of branches.

Method Of Control

Inject fumigants such as Paradichlorobenzene into holes and seal to kill, Or remove the tree.
